SALE PROCEDURE:
Heifers will be sold in uniform lots sorted according to breed type, size, and calving dates. Heifers become the property of the purchaser immediately after sale. Each animal will be at the purchaser’s risk as soon as sold. The sale agent will aid in the loading of the cattle on instructions from the buyer, but at the buyer’s risk. No cattle will be loaded until the conclusion of the sale. All fees will be collected by Paris Stockyard.
GUARANTEE:
All heifers are guaranteed bred and are guaranteed to remain pregnant for 60 days after the sale. Any heifers found open (by an accredited veterinarian) will be refunded by the consignor. All guarantees are made by the consignor of the cattle and not the sale committee or the Bourbon County Livestock Improvement Association. You may have a licensed veterinarian palpate your purchased Elite heifers on your farm prior to January 1, 2023 and upon receipt of certification from a licensed veterinarian confirming palpation you will be refunded $5/head by the Elite Heifer Sale. Any open heifers will be guaranteed by the individual consignors. There will be NO pregnancy guarantees after January 1, 2023.

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS FOR HEIFERS IN 2022 FALL BRED HEIFER SALE:
FALL 2021:
All heifers must be calf-hood vaccinated between 4 and 10 months of age for Brucellosis
Heifers must be vaccinated against IBR, BVD, PI3, BRSV, Histophilus somni (formerly Haemophilus somnus) and Clostridial (7-way recommended).
No growth implants of any kind will be allowed.
Heifers must be dewormed using a product to control all stages of the internal parasite life cycle.
External parasites must be controlled.
Heat may not be suppressed for extended periods of time, MGA is used for heat synchronization only.
SPRING 2022:
Heifers are weighed and pelvic measured to MARC standards - English breeds must weigh 600 lbs and Continental breeds must weight 700 lbs.
Heifers reproductive tracts are evaluated and pelvic measurements must be greater that 160 sq. cm.
Heifers are vaccinated for protection against IBR, PI3, BVD, BRSV, Vibriosis, Leptospirosis (Bovi Shield 5FPVL5)
Heifers are dewormed and treated for external parasites
FALL 2022:
Heifers must be pregnancy examined to determine breeding dates by licensed veterinarian (Confirmation of AI pregnancy or natural service).
Heifers are treated to control external and internal parasites (Pour-on).
Heifers are once again vaccinated for IBR, PI3, BVD, BRSV & Lepto 5 (Bovi Shield 5FPL5).
Heifers are inspected by Kentucky Department of Agriculture Graders to eliminate shorts, scarred eyes, rat tails, light muscled heifers and disorderly dispositions.
Heifers reproductive tracts are evaluated and pelvic measurements must be greater that 200 sq. cm.
Heifers have tested negative for BVD PI by ear notch sampling.
*In addition to the above health requirements, heifers must be bred to bulls with (calving ease) scores greater than guidelines for the following breeds:
Angus (6)
Red Angus (13)
Simmental (11)
CAIP-Cost Share Information
Elite Bred Heifers are eligible for cost-share under the Kentucky County Agriculture Investment Program (CAIP). Affidavits to qualified buyers that are approved under a county CAIP program will be available after the sale. Please contact the Bourbon County Extension Office for further information and guidelines.
